Helping Every Child Belong

The Buddy Program helps disabled children participate safely and confidently in their classroom while their parents worship with peace of mind. Each child is paired with a trained peer or adult volunteer who stays alongside them throughout the class, offering individualized encouragement, assistance, and friendship based on that child’s unique needs.

Buddies serve as an additional source of support—not as a replacement for the classroom team. The teacher and teacher assistant remain present and responsible for leading the class, while the buddy helps one child engage in activities, interact with classmates, and feel included. The buddy remains with the child until class is over and the child is safely reunited with their parents.

Serving as a buddy is a meaningful opportunity to help a child experience church as a place where they are known, valued, and welcomed. With training, patience, and a compassionate heart, you can provide tremendous encouragement to a disabled child and an invaluable gift of reassurance to their family.
